The trojan virus i got, that i had to reformat from, was that everytime i clicked on anything like, RUN, even the virus scann, and the IE icon, everytime i clicked on something a little box thing would say 'Windows needs file blahblah.exe to run this program' then ya click OK...
the problem was (and the joke was) there was no such file... *L* soooo you couldnt run anything!

For a windows person, the best answer is seldom one that they would want.. The ultimate way to get rid of these things, is to have i.e. updated, for outlook purposes.. However, the patch doesn't work, so back to square one.. Thanks micro$lut. Anywho, you could also get another Mail Client, one that won't automatically open things.. People frown apon that, because html pages don't come in.. But the speed is incredible.

Or, you could go with netscape. It doesn't rely in built-in fileassociations to open files (i.e. *.vbs for visual basic scripts) etc.. Or you could point out to your ISP that they need to filter it at the base.. Will not apply to AOL.. Too much spam to start.

Point them to http://www.daemonnews.org for a good starting point. Most don't have much of a clue, and that might prove to be extremely helpful.

It was fucked up. I tried running Norton and McAfee both to get rid of it, and Norton didn't work and I couldn't get the online version of McAfee to run, so I was freaking out thinking my computer was gonna die and just gave up. I turned it on the next morning and it was gone. I think it must have been an April fools prank... it said "not today!" on it, and everything was back to normal the next day *l*. I had a panic attack for nothing. *whew*
